Agapia Monastery and Neamt fortress guided trip from Iasi (by car)

Description:  This tour is a good choice for the visitors with limited time, in just half day taking a short ride to the most important landmarks of the area. The tour starts in Iasi, Moldavia’s largest town also the main educational center, known as the city of the great ideas or the city of the seven hills like Rome or Lisbon. Capital of Romanian United Principalities two times between 1859-1862 and 1916-1918, at this moment Iasi is considered Romania’s Cultural Capital.

First stop will take us to Agapia Monastery, a famous nouns monastery, dated 17th century painted by one of the best known Romanian painters, Nicolae Grigorescu. It is not just an ordinary monastery since this place will show you a part from the nuns village this way travelling back time to see how the people where living almost a hundred years ago to the countryside. Also, the tour will be completed only after you will visit the carpet workshop which is still a major activity of the complex in order to sustain themselves.

The last stop will be at Neamt Fortress, dated late 14th century, part of the former Moldavian defensive system once. Along the time, the citadel was the major guardian on Moldova and Siret valleys but also on the gateway to Transylvania, becoming one of the major Fortress of Moldova, because of the many works of strengthening during the time of Stephen the Great.  The building was declared a historical monument in 1866 and is major landmark for a visit in the North East Romania.

Part of Moldavia, Bucovina became a region administrated by    Austro-Hungarian Empire between 1775 until 1918 following to the Russian Austrian conflicts. It offers picturesque landscapes with low mountains covered by forest and rivers valleys hiding peaceful monasteries, some of them founded half of millennium ago. First stop is Voronet Monastery, known as The Sistine Chapel of Eastern Europe due its exterior blue frescoes showing “The Last Judgment”. UNESCO in Bucovina

• Description: One day trip with driver-guide to see the highlights of the famous UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Monasteries of Bucovina. The tour includes visits to the worldwide best-known monasteries of Voronet, Moldovita and Sucevita. This day trip is the perfect choice to get an idea about what Bucovina means, which became region administrated by Austro-Hungarian Empire between 1785 until 1918 following to Russian Austrian conflicts. First stop is Voronet Monastery, known as The Sistine Chapel of Eastern Europe due its exterior blue frescoes showing “The Last Judgment”. Of course, here’s the place where you will discover a lot about the former Moldavian rulers like Stephan the Great, who ruled Moldavia almost for his entire life, dedicated to a permanent fight against the Ottoman Empire. Stephan’s the Great role was a major one in Europe’s Dark Age since his small kingdom was like a buffer zone between the Muslim expansion towards the Christianity of Europe, that’s why he was named by the Papa Sixt as “Athleta Christi” due his fights in name of Christianity. In just half hour by car from Voronet, the road will take you to another mountain village, where is located The Monastery of Moldovita, one of the first painted monasteries in Bucovina, completed in 1532. Crossing Obcina Mare mountain, you will discover the late 16th century Sucevita monastery the newest between the painted churches. Leaving Bucovina without visiting the traditional workshop of black pottery in Marginea to find out the secrets directly from clay masters is not allowed.
